About Camp Shenandoah
Camp Shenandoah is a year-round, 500-acre Scout reservation nestled in the Appalachian foothills of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, located at 222 Boy Scout Lane in Swoope. Owned and operated by the Virginia Headwaters Council, the property combines classic Scouting terrain—wooded ridges, hiking trails, and Hope Lake at its center—with a full slate of program facilities. Its setting makes it equally suited to a first-year Scout’s introduction to the outdoors and to seasoned units looking for more rugged adventure, with nearby hikes including the climb to Elliott Knob.
In the summer, Camp Shenandoah runs resident camp programs for every level of Scouting. Cub Scouts (Lions through Arrow of Light) and rising Webelos/AOL Scouts attend shorter resident sessions built around fun and skill-building, while Scouts BSA units come for full weeks of merit badges, outdoor adventure, and fellowship. Program areas span Aquatics, Scoutcraft, Handicraft, Nature, Shooting Sports, Skilled Trades, and STEM, and new Scouts can accelerate their advancement toward First Class through the camp’s Timber Mountain program. Adult leaders can also pick up supplemental training in areas such as aquatics, boating safety, and CPR while they’re on site.
Beyond summer camp, Camp Shenandoah is available year-round for unit and family camping, facility rentals, hiking, and special events, making it a reliable destination for weekend campouts in any season. Units can reserve campsites and indoor facilities directly, and the camp’s trail network and open spaces support everything from a quick overnight to a longer troop adventure. To check availability, review site options, or book a stay, units can reach the camp at (540) 943-6675 or director@campshenandoah.org, or reserve online through the council’s reservation system linked at campshenandoah.org.
