The Mountain Valley District offers a variety of training opportunities for adult leaders and youth. We encourage you to check the calendar for upcoming training events and other district activities.
🏕️ BALOO Training — December 5–6, 2026
📍 Camp Shenandoah | Every pack needs a BALOO-trained leader to go pack camping — this overnight course is how you get there. Covers planning, outdoor skills, and keeping Cub Scouts safe and having fun outside. 💲 $30 per person · Registration closes December 2 at 8:00 PM. ✅ Register Now · 🚫 No walk-in registration.
🌲 VAHC Outdoor School — Spring at Camp Shenandoah
Our all-in-one weekend for outdoor leadership skills, networking, and fun — BALOO, IOLS, Rangemaster Training and more, all in one place. Outdoor School returns in spring 2027; course offerings are announced in January, so check back here for dates and registration. Let’s build stronger units by empowering more adults to lead confidently in the outdoors.
🪵 Wood Badge 2027 — Fall 2027, Camp Shenandoah
Scouting America’s ultimate leadership training for adult leaders in every program — five days over two weekends, then your ticket to better Scouting. Learn more about Wood Badge 2027.
⭐ NYLT — July 18–23, 2027, Camp Shenandoah
National Youth Leadership Training: a week that models a month in the life of a youth-led troop, for Scouts age 13+ who are First Class. Fee $295 ($75 deposit). Registration opening soon — NYLT details here.
🛡️ Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT)
🛡️ Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT) is required for all registered leaders. Complete the online course at my.scouting.org, and check back for district in-person sessions.
