Gone Home: William E. “Chip” Hunsberger

In the Scouting community, we honor, grieve, and share the news of the passing of a valued member in the tradition of founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell by using the trail symbol for “Gone Home.” Baden-Powell’s grave in Kenya bears this circle with a dot symbol and its use is considered a respectful and traditional way to honor the memory of a fellow Scouter.

We mourn the passing of Chip Hunsberger, a devoted Scouting volunteer whose impact was felt at the unit, district, and council levels. His dedication to Scouting and the youth he served will long be remembered. Chip was recognized with the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor, the OA Founder’s Award, and the Silver Beaver Award for his outstanding service and leadership. Chip had a deep love for Camp Shenandoah and served the council as a former Executive Board member and Vice President of Properties. His passion for Scouting and commitment to service touched countless lives throughout the Scouting community. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Hunsberger family and all who were touched by Chip’s life and service.
