Gone Home: Gene Ramsey

Ralston Eugene “Gene” Ramsey

March 13, 1935 – June 17, 2026

Our deepest condolences to the family of Gene Ramsey who passed away at the age of 91. A devoted Scouter and recipient of the Silver Beaver Award, Gene made an extraordinary impact on Scouting, the outdoors, and our Camp Shenandoah community. Much of what campers see and enjoy today reflects his countless hours of service, craftsmanship, and care. Beyond his many projects, Gene invested in young people by teaching STEM and biking programs and sharing his knowledge through merit badge instruction for generations of Scouts. His legacy will continue to inspire Scouts and Scouters for years to come.

In the Scouting community, we honor, grieve, and share the news of the passing of a valued member in the tradition of founder Lord Robert Baden-Powell by using the trail symbol for “Gone Home.” Baden-Powell’s grave in Kenya bears this circle with a dot symbol and its use is considered a respectful and traditional way to honor the memory of a fellow Scouter.
